The San Diego Police Department has had a longtime struggle with staffing.
The city's police union has been one of the louder voices in the effort to funnel more money into the department and up the appeal to recruit more officers.
Jeff Jordon, vice president of the San Diego Police Officers Association, spoke up this week in front of City Council members during Thursday's public safety committee meeting, responding to a recent report on SDPD's retention troubles released by the Independent Budget Analyst's Office.
"The IBA report," Jordon told us on this week's podcast, "can best be translated as a cigarette package that has a warning label on the side – fix the recruiting and retention problem, or it's going to be hazardous to your health."
Brian Marvel, president of the POA, also joined our co-hosts to give more of the association's stance on public safety in San Diego.
